SUPPORT FOR THE SELF EMPLOYED
The chancellor has just announced a package of support for the Self Employed, similar to that which he announced for salaried workers last week.
The new Self Employed Workers Income Support Scheme will PAY SELF EMPLOYED WORKERS 80% OF MONTHLY PROFIT AVERAGED OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS UP TO £2.5K PCM for the next three months with an option to extend based on the circumstances.
This will be limited to those with a trading profit up to £50k and to those who earn the majority of their incomes on a self employed basis.
To prevent fraud, qualification for the scheme will be contingent on a valid 2019 tax return. (Those who had missed the filing deadline will have 4 weeks from today to fill in a valid return to allow them to qualify for the scheme.
As with the Job retention scheme this is to be accessed through the HMRC website via www.gov.uk
The chancellor hinted at a review of the tax rates paid by the self-employed in the future.
